Thomas was born about 1840 in Ugglebarnby, Yorkshire.1   Thomas' father was Joseph Readman and his mother was Anne.  He had two brothers and three sisters, named Robert, John, Mary, Rebecca and Margret.  He was the second oldest of the six children.
