Samuel was born in 1817.  Samuel's father was Samuel Draper and his mother was Maria Asher.  His paternal grandparents were Daniel Draper and Elizabeth Sainsbury.  He was the fourth of nine children.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named Daniel, James, Thomas, Henry, Mary, Maria, Elizabeth and Susanna.  He died at the age of 60 in 1877.
