Samuel was born in 1802 in Salt Lick Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1   Samuel's father was Adam Ritenour Sr. and his mother was Hannah Sleasman (Ritenour).  His paternal grandparents were George Reitenauer and Maria Elizabeth Snyder (Reitenauer, Gallentine); his maternal grandparents were George Sleasman Sr. and Demaris Miller (Sleasman). He had ten brothers and nine sisters, named Henry, Peter, George, John, Jacob, Joseph, James, Adam, Christian, William, Hannah, Margaret, Susannah, Levina, Demaris, Katherine, Nancy, Anna Marie and Julia. He had a half-brother named George.  He died at the age of 56 on January 5th, 1858.  He was buried at the Old Lutheran Cemetery, Indian Head, Saltlick Township,  Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1 1 

Samuel's family

Samuel and Caroline were married in a religious & civil ceremony in 1833 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, USA.1   They had eight sons and six daughters, named George, William, Benjamin, Daniel, David, Samuel, Elias, Elijah, Mary, Catherine, Elizabeth, Harriet, Margaret and Ellen.
