Tomás' father was Cirilo García (Carrascal) and his mother was Amparo Álvaro (García).  His paternal grandparents were Julián García and Santas Carrascal; his maternal grandparents were  Tomás Álvaro and  Ruperta García.  He is the fifth of eight children.  He had four brothers and three sisters, named Cirilo, Pedro, Julián, José, Valentina, Patricia and Juliana.  He had a half-sister named Felicitas.
