Tomasa was born in Valdezate (Burgos).  Tomasa's father was Román Martínez (González) and her mother was Petra González (De Frutos).  She was the fifth of six children.  She had four brothers and a sister, named Elías, Adolfo, Pablo, Leonardo and Felipa.
