Atilano's father was Pablo Martínez (González) and his mother was Aurelia Nieto.  His paternal grandparents were Román Martínez (González) and Petra González (De Frutos).  He is the fourth of six children.  He has two brothers and three sisters, named Jose María, Emiliano, Antonia, Ana María and Adela.
