John was born on December 16th, 1864 in Martock, Somerset, England.1   John's father was Isaac Lock and his mother was Ann Carey.  His paternal grandparents were James Lock and Mary Best. He had three brothers and five sisters, named Isaac, Edwin, William, Betsy Grace, Rose Ann, Rosa Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth Mary. He had a half-sister named Martha Ann.  He died at the age of 80 on November 16th, 1945 in Martock, Somerset, England.
