Janet was born about 1840.  Janet's father was Keith Forbes Milne and her mother was Christian Brown.  Her paternal grandparents were Keith Milne and <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were Alexander Brown and Mary Stephen.  She had six brothers and three sisters, named Andrew, Keith, Charles, Thomas, Robert, John, Mary, Margaret and Isabella.  She was the second oldest of the ten children.
