Elizabeth, known as Lizzie, was born in 1877 in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire.  Lizzie's father was Andrew McDonald and her mother was Leslie Fraser.  Her paternal grandfather was James McDonald and her paternal grandmother is <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were Andrew Fraser and Martha Cooper.  She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Andrew, William, James, Charles, Alexander, George, Gordon, Christina, Mattie, Leslie, Ruby and Maggie.
