Charlotte was born about 1894 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire.  Charlotte's father was Thomas Fraser and her mother was Margaret McKenzie.  Her paternal grandparents were John Fraser and Ann Thomson; her maternal grandparents were William McKenzie and Elizabeth Stuart. She had a brother and six sisters, named William, Margaret, Williamina, Alice, Frances, Bella and Mary.  She was the seventh oldest of the eight children.
