Jane was born about 1849 in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire.  Jane's father was James Davidson and her mother was Margaret Imlay.  Her maternal grandparents were John Imlay and Ann MacGregor.  She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, James, Margaret, Ann and Helen.
