Ben was born in 1798.  Ben's father was Henry Bullen and his mother was Anne Searle.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Bullen and Mary Martin. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Henry, Edward, James, Richard, Rebecca, Bet and Mercy.  He was the youngest of the nine children.
