Maria del Pilar was born in 1936.  Maria del Pilar's father was Juan Count of Barcelona and her mother was Maria  de las Mercedea of Bourbon.  Her paternal grandparents were Alfonso XIII King of Spain and Victoria Eugenia of Battenburg. She had two brothers and a sister, named Juan Carlos King of Spain Prince of Astruias, Alfonso and Margarita.  She was the oldest of the four children.
