Alfonso was born in 1940.  Alfonso's father was Juan Count of Barcelona and his mother was Maria  de las Mercedea of Bourbon.  His paternal grandparents were Alfonso XIII King of Spain and Victoria Eugenia of Battenburg. He had a brother and two sisters, named Juan Carlos King of Spain Prince of Astruias, Maria del Pilar and Margarita.  He was the youngest of the four children.  He died at the age of 16 in 1956.
