Christen was born in 1745.  Christen's father was Frederick V King of Denmark and Norway and his mother was Louisa Princess of Great Britian.  His paternal grandparents were Christen VI King of Denmark and Norway and Sophia Magdalene Margravina of Bradenburg-Kulmbach; his maternal grandparents were King George II of England and Hanover and Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach. He had a brother and three sisters, named Christen VII King of Denmark and Norway, Sophia, Caroline and Louisa.  He was the oldest of the five children. He had a half-brother named Frederick Regent of Denmark.  He died at the age of 2 in 1747.
