Cecilia was born in 1540.  Cecilia's father was Gustalf I (Gustav Eriksson "Gustav Vasa") King and Regent of Sweden and her mother was Margareta Leijonhufvud. She had three brothers and four sisters, named John III King of Sweden, Magnus Duke of Ostergotland, Charles IX King of Sweden, Katarina, Anna Maria, Sofia and Elisabeth.  She was the third oldest of the eight children. She had a half-brother named Eric XIV King of Sweden.  She died at the age of 87 in 1627.
