Caroline's father was Francis I King of Spain and her mother was Maria Theresa Queen of Spain.  Her maternal grandparents were Charles VI King of Spain and Elizabeth Christina of Brunswick. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Joseph II Emperor, Ferdinand, Maximilian Elector of Cologne, Emperor Leopold II, Amelia and Marie Antoinette of Austria.
