Augusta's father was Frederick Prince of Wales and her mother was Augusta of Saxo-Gotha.  Her paternal grandparents were King George II of England and Hanover and Caroline of Brandenburg-Ansbach. She had four brothers named King George III of England and Hanover, Edward Duke of York, William Henry Duke Gloucester and Henry Duke of Cumberland.
