Alexander was born on August 25th, 1816 in Hancock County, Georgia.  Alexander's father was Thomas Alexander Porch and his mother was Tabatha Bonner (Porch).  His maternal grandparents were Richard Bonner and Frances Mitchell. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named William, James, Julius, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Frances, Susan, Sarah, Pleasant and Mary.  He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He had five half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Henry, Thomas, Stiles, John, John, Elizabeth, Celia, Sarah, Nancy and Ella.  He died at the age of 35 in 1851 in Tallapoosa County Alabama.  He was buried in Dark Cemetery.
