Anne Maria was born in December 1867 in Ibstock, Leicestershire, , England. Anne Maria's father is Edmund Farmer and her mother is Agnes Jessie Harriman. Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Farmer and Mary Vesty. She had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, Frederick William, Alfred, David Ellis, Henry and Selina.
