    There are no records of Aaron VanVickle later than the 1840 census. There was an Aaron Vanwinckle in Hancock Co who was 20 to 30 years old, which would place his birth around 1810-1820. In 1850 his wife Catherine was the head of the household. Catherine died in Grant Co., Wis. in 1855. Most of the settlers of Grant Co., Wisconsin arrived there to be miners in the lead
    mines. I have often wondered why the family moved from Hancock Co., IL to Southwest Wisconsin unless the family had relatives in the area, or because of financial opportunities (mining). Was Aaron missing from the 1850 census because he was deceased, or was he away working somewhere else? If he were a miner could he have gone to California for the gold rush (49's), and died there? I find it odd that Catherine would move to Wisconsin without her husband.
