Capt. John was born in 1755 in Shermans Dale, Perry, Pennsylvania, USA.1   Capt. John's father was John McMahan and his mother was Margaret Murray. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Maj. James, Benjamin, Rachel, Sarah, Elizabeth, Agnes, Mary and Margaret.  He died at the age of 47 on April 20th, 1802 in Potts Grove, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, USA.  He was buried on April 22nd, 1802 in Chillisquaque Cemetery.1 2
