Matthys was born on June 18th, 1671 in Kingston, Ulster, NY, US.  Matthys' father was Jan  Matthysen Jansen/VanKeulen and his mother was Madelaine BLANCHAN.  His paternal grandparents were Matthij Jansen Van Keulen/VanKeuren and Margriet Hendrickse; his maternal grandfather is Matthys BLANCHAN and his maternal grandmother was Magdalena Brissen JOIRE.  He had four brothers and five sisters, named Jan, Matthys, Hendrick, Davit, Magdalena, Margrietje, Sara, Catheryn and Maria.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.
