Jan was born in 1678 in Kingston, Ulster, New York.  Jan's father was Jan  Matthysen Jansen/VanKeulen and his mother was Madelaine BLANCHAN.  His paternal grandparents were Matthij Jansen Van Keulen/VanKeuren and Margriet Hendrickse; his maternal grandfather is Matthys BLANCHAN and his maternal grandmother was Magdalena Brissen JOIRE.  He had four brothers and five sisters, named Matthys, Matthys, Hendrick, Davit, Magdalena, Margrietje, Sara, Catheryn and Maria.  He was the third oldest of the ten children.
