George's father was Samuel (Sam) Pilkington and his mother was Emily Margaret Cartwright.  His paternal grandparents were John Pilkington and Hannah Taylor.  He had two brothers and four sisters, named Charles, John, Mabel, Alice, Ethyl and Gertrude.  He died in 1955.
