Ethyl's father was Samuel (Sam) Pilkington and her mother was Emily Margaret Cartwright.  Her paternal grandparents were John Pilkington and Hannah Taylor.  She had three brothers and three sisters, named George, Charles, John, Mabel, Alice and Gertrude.
