Samuel was born in 1776 in At Sea.1   Samuel's father was James Rankin and his mother was Margaret Witherspoon. He had six brothers and a sister, named John, James, William James, Andrew, David, Henry and Miriam.  He died at the age of 72 in 1848 in Dundee, Monroe, Michigan, United States.1 



Samuel's first family with Azubah Whitcomb

‌Samuel and Azubah were married in a religious ceremony on August 22nd, 1798 in Lisbon, Grafton, New Hampshire, United States.2   They had three sons and three daughters, named Orlean, Samuel, Philamon, Diantha, Almira and Joanna.


Samuel's second family with Margaret Peabody

They had a son named Albert.
