Nancy's father was Absalom Scales and her mother was Ann Kenner Dalton.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Dalton Jr and Charlotte Gallahue. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Samuel, John, Joseph, Nicholas, Absalom, Noah, Charlotte and Jane.
