Jan was born on March 11th, 1901. Jan's father was Simon Petrus van Blerck and his mother was Maria Wilhelmina Joubert. His paternal grandparents were Siemon (Paatjie) Petrus van Blerck and Jacomina Hendrina Louw. He had a brother and six sisters, named Simon, Sarah , Jacomina, Maria, van Blerk, Rachel and Hester. He was the fourth oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 87 on August 25th, 1988.
