Hester was born on March 29th, 1913. Hester's father was Simon Petrus van Blerck and her mother was Maria Wilhelmina Joubert. Her paternal grandparents were Siemon (Paatjie) Petrus van Blerck and Jacomina Hendrina Louw. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Simon, Jan, Sarah , Jacomina, Maria, van Blerk and Rachel. She was the youngest of the eight children. She died from cancer at the age of 50 on May 1st, 1963.
