Arthur

Sophie was married to a man named Noordhoek-Hegt in Madras. She was widowed and married Carl Victor Reuter in 1881. A picture of Arthur as a four or five year old boy has the description Arthur in March 1883. Arthur is pictured in a picture of three children who are named Sophie, Arthur and Willem, but Sophie and Willem, who are at least eight years older than Arthur, do not show up again in further family pictures or documents. Perhaps these other two children were left behind in Madras. In 2008 new information was added by a descendent of Sophie Pincott, Chris Pilger of Canada. He confirms that Sophie's maiden name was Pincott and she was married to William Adrina Johann Noordhoek-Hegt, with whom she had four sons. One of these is Arthur. In the meantime, it has been established that Willem is Arthur's older brother. Willy, wrote several letters that survived to give many details of the family.

On one postcard, Willy signs himself Willy Gräwe; on another William Hegt.
Willy wrote highly detailed letters that were preserved by their recipients, his sister-in-law Anna and the daughter of his half-brother Otto, Lieselotte Reuter.

The author of this report found a reference to an Arthur Noordhoek Hegt in the Wikipedia of the Netherlands under the name Arthur1941. He is the author of two articles, which this author, Marianne Tong, was unable to interpret. The assumption is that The living Arthur is the son or grandson of this Arthur. The original Arthur was born around 1879 to Sophie and William Noordhoek-Hegt. The pictured Arthur might have been born around 1910. This would make 1941 a sensible birth year for the Arthur mentioned in Wikipedia.

A strong Matriarch, Sophie was married to William Adrian Johann Noordhoek-Hegt. She had four sons, William, Arthur, Harry and Charley (perhaps she also had a daughter who is pictured only once with Willem and Arthur but never appeared again in family photos). Her first husband died, and she married Carl Victor Reuter and had five more sons, Franz, Georg, Gustav, Fritz and Otto.
