Sarah was born in 1848 in Madras, India.  Sarah's father was Stephen Pincott and her mother was Caroline Simmonds Pincott.  Her paternal grandfather was Benjamin Pincott and her paternal grandmother is <Unknown>; her maternal grandparents were William Simmonds and Elizabeth Page (Simmonds). She had two brothers and three sisters, named Stephen, William, Sophia, Mary Ann and Camelia.  She was the oldest of the six children.
