Thiers was born on September 4th, 1897 in Barra Mansa; RJ.  Thiers' father was Aurélio de Souza Monteiro de Barros and his mother was Francisca (Chiquinha) Domingues Monteiro de Barros.  His paternal grandparents were Julio César de Miranda Monteiro de Barros and Emiliana de Souza Breves. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Júlio César, Renato, Ed, Marco Aurélio, Sebastião, Raul, Emiliana, Maria, Antonieta, Aurélia and Maria da Conceição.
