José Back

José was born on August 25th, 1879 in Colônia Theresópolis, Santa Catarina, Brasil. José's father was Matias Back and his mother was Maria Katharina (ou Gaetana?) Steffens. His paternal grandparents were Jakob Back and Maria Anna Trösch; his maternal grandparents were Johann Steffens and Elisabetha Büttinger. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, João, Mathias, Helena, Maria and Isabel. He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
