Maria was born on January 5th, 1840 in North Clifton Notts, England.1 Maria's father was Rhodes Mitchell and her mother was Sarah Bealby. Her paternal grandparents were John Mitchell and UNKNOWN; her maternal grandparents were William Bealby and Elizabeth Wright. She had a brother named Rhodes . She was the older of the two children.
