  Major R. McCoy, 69, Ellsworth, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Salina Regional health Center.
  
  Mr. McC0y was born July 28, 1928, at Ellsworth and was a resident of Hutchinson for 38 years before returning to Ellsworth in 1995.  He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.  He was an elementary teacher and principal for 41 years.  He was a member of the American Legion, Hutchison, Kansan and National Education associations, 3-M Group, Ellsworth, First United Methodist Church and Ellsworth County Historical Society board.
  
  Survivors include his wife, Mary M. of Ellsworth; three sons, Mark R. of Hutchinson, Matthew J. of Lawrence and Michael G. of Kansas City, Mo.: a daughter, Marci K. McCoy of Madison, Wis.; a sister, Joyce Pappas of Springfield, Va.; a brother, Donald of Pueblo, Colo.; and four grandchildren.
  
  A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Ellsworth, the Rev. John Snook officiating.  Internment will be at a later date.
  
  Memorials may be made to Ellsworth County Historical Society or the church.
  
  There will be no visitation.
