Edwin (Ted) John George Belcher

Edwin, known as Ted, was born on August 17th, 1899 in 4, Hereford Square, High Street, Saltley, Birmingham and his baptism took place on August 28th, 1899 in St. Saviours Church, Saltley, Birmingham.

  EDWIN JOHN GEORGE  was born on the 17th of August 1899 at 4, Hereford Square Saltley and was baptised on the 28th of August 1899 in the name of John George at St Saviours Church  the additional name Edwin was included on his Birth Certificate

Ted's father was Edwin  Vaughan Belcher and his mother is Florence Bayliss.  His paternal grandparents were George  Charles Belcher and Eliza Vaughan. He had a brother and three sisters, named Willie, Agnes, Minnie and Ivy.  He was the second youngest of the five children.  He died from cancer at the age of 69 in 1968 in Birmingham General Hospital.  The funeral took place in Sutton Coldfield Crematorium.  He was cremated in Sutton Coldfield.

He lived with his parent at 4, Hereford Square and 19, Teal Road Saltley and in 1910 moved with the family to 21 Foley Road Ward End. He attended the local primary junior schools. As a young man he joined the army and saw service in Ireland. He married Elsie May Davis at St Margarets Church Ward End on the 1st of August 1925 and for a short time lived with his wife`s parents at 11, Cato Street Nechells where his only child Dorothy Mary was born. The family subsequently moved to Eastfield Road and then to Corbyn Road Bordsley Green. The family finally moved to 13, Chetwynd Road Ward End where Elsie died in 1962 from cancer of the liver. She was buried in Yardley cemetery. After the death of his wife Ted went to live with his daughter at Hazelhurst Road Streetly. He died of  cancer in Birmingham General Hospital in 1968 and was cremated at Sutton Coldfield Crematorium. During his working life until retirement he was a Post Office Engineer.

  Dorothy Mary was born on the 18th of September 1926 at 11, Cato Street Nechells. As a child she attended the local primary and junior schools and Erdington Grammar School.She married Henry Vincent Taylor at St Margarets Church Ward End on the 27th of September 1947. Residing at Hazelhurst Road Steetly and latterly at 31, Wood Lane Streetly. Henry Vincent Taylor was a Merchant Plumber. He was born on the 20th of July 1923 and died on the 9th of October 1984 from a heart attack. Dorothy Mary died in 2004 from a blood clot on her lung.
