John was born on December 23rd, 1649 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts.1   John's father was Thomas Whittier and his mother was Ruth Whittier.  His paternal grandfather is Richard Whittier and his paternal grandmother was Mary Whittier. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Nathaniel, Richard, Joseph, Thomas, Mary, Ruth, Susannah, Hannah and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 71 on April 5th, 1721 in Haverhill, Essex, Massachusetts.1
