Alexander was born on November 28th, 1756 in Windham, Rockingham, New Hampshire.  Alexander's father was Alexander Simpson and his mother is Jennet Templeton.  His paternal grandfather was William Simpson; his maternal grandfather is Templeton. He had four brothers and three sisters, named John, Samuel, William, William, Sarah, Jannet and Agnes.  He died at the age of 82 in 1838 in Freemont, Ohio.
