Maria was born about 1789 in Oostburg, Netherlands.  Maria's father was Abraham Scheerens and her mother was Jozina Scheerens.  Her maternal grandfather is Nicolaas de Clercq and her maternal grandmother was Catharina de Clercq. She had two brothers and a sister, named Abraham, Cornelia and Catharina.  She was the youngest of the four children.  She died on May 25th, 1852 in Retranchement, Netherlands.
