Brinton Paine

Brinton was born in Hebron Twp., Tolland, Connecticut. Brinton's father was Stephen Paine and his mother was Deborah Paine. His paternal grandparents were Stephen Paine and Mary Paine. He had seven brothers and four sisters, named Roswell, Ezra, Ezra, Edward, John, Timothy, Stephen, Deborah, Mary, Deborah and Demaris. He died in 1820 in Elmira, Tioga, New York.

General Notes
- He removed to Dutchess County, New York about 1777, he was a colonel in the Revolution and was taken prisoner. He was confined in the 'OLd Sugar House' prison for many months and his letters to Governor George Clinton are preserved in Albany. After the war he was a member of the New York legislature. About 1790, he removed to Newton and bought a large tract of land on which the city of Elmira now stands. !BIRTH: IGI extraction; FHL film #002940.
