Abigail's father is Increase Mather and her mother is Mariah Mather.  Her paternal grandfather was Richard Mather and her paternal grandmother is Catherine Mather; her maternal grandparents are John Cotton and Sarah Hawkredd. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Cotton, Nathaniel, Samuel, Elizabeth, Maria, Sarah, Katherine, Jerusha and Hannah.
