Martin was born in 1910 in Detroit, Michigan.1   Martin's father was Yitzchak (Itcha) Meir Pienica / Newman and his mother was Nettie (Necha) Pienica (Penica).  His paternal grandparents are Pesach  Dov Pienica (Penica) and Chava Sura; his maternal grandparents are Lazer Yitzchak Pienica (Penica) and <Unknown>. He had two brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Max and Esther. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Morrie J, Joe and Rose.
