Thomas was born about 1833 in Barking Essex. Thomas' father was William Henry Best (a Baker) and his mother was Eliza Laby. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Best (fisherman) and Ann Hall; his maternal grandparents are James Laby (Coal Merchant) and <Unknown>. He had three sisters named Mary, Eliza and Julia. He was the oldest of the four children. He had a half-sister named Mary . He died on December 21st, 1863 in Barking Essex. The funeral took place in St Margarets Churchyard. He was buried in St Margarets Churchyard.¹
