- Born Isadore I Zalewitz. Known as Irving Zale, Israel Zale.On February 3, 1950 he changed his name to Irving I. Zale and his army records were amended.

Irving's father was Wolf Zalewitz and his mother was Sara Bialy. His paternal grandparents were Max Zalewitz and Anna Unk; his maternal grandparents were Sam Bialy and <Unknown>. He was an only child. He died at the age of 82 on February 7th, 2001 in Baltimore, Baltimore, Maryland.
