Walter was born on December 30th, 1871 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.  Walter's father was James BURNS and his mother was Esther RAMSBOTTOM.  His paternal grandparents were John BURNS and Bridget (UNKNOWN); his maternal grandparents were James RAMSBOTTOM and Elizabeth DITCHFIELD.  He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, John, William, Fred, Elizabeth, Esther, Annie and Charlotte.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 73 in 1944.
