Elizabeth was born in 1863 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.  Elizabeth's father was James BURNS and her mother was Esther RAMSBOTTOM.  Her paternal grandparents were John BURNS and Bridget (UNKNOWN); her maternal grandparents were James RAMSBOTTOM and Elizabeth DITCHFIELD.  She had five brothers and three sisters, named James, John, William, Walter, Fred, Esther, Annie and Charlotte.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
