    "The patronymic Montgomery was held by quite a number of families settled on Cartwright's creek before the beginning of the present century.  Charles Montgomery, whose wife was an Elder, was the father of the Dominican priests, Stephen and Samuel Montgomery, ordained by Bishop Flaget in the year 1816.  Basil Montgomery was the father of the Rev. Charles P. Montgomery, of the same order.  In addition to these, there were the families of James, John [Barton?], Bernard, and Jeremiah Montgomery, most of whom have descendants still living in the county of Washington."
