  I am descended from a PETER MONTGOMERY who was born Abt. 1684 in France,
  and died Bet. January 16, 1751/52 - December 26, 1754 in Charles County, MD. He
  married MARGITT (MARGARET, whose last name is unknown). I have my line of
  Montgomerys from me all the way back to him, but now I want to try to find out who his
  parents and/or line were, and where in France he was born or from. I know of the famous
  Montgomery line that went from Normandy, France to England with William the
  Conqueror when he took England in 1066 A.D. and wound up owning much land and
  property in Wales, then were turned on by the new king after William's death, that then
  went to Scotland, and some then went back to Normandy, England, America, etc.. I
  don't know if Peter Montgomery was descended from any of these lines and his parents
  or who ever went back to France, or if he was from another Montgomery line that never
  left Normandy or what.
  Another thing I have wondered about is what the Montgomerys are. I know they came
  from France, but were they of Norse descent, as most Normans were, or Germanic
  descent, or European Celtic descent, as all of France was at one time? Any help or info
  on the above questions would be greatly appreciated.
