    Gideon Barnett purchases 40 acres of land from the U.S. Government, 30 Oct. 1835, NE1/4 of NW1/4 of Sec. 8, T2s, R8w, Certificate # 48661.  Deed Book 11, Pg. 315.  (CMB 5/24/2006 note: I cannot corroborate that claim on the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) website.  BLM has 8 NENW T2S R8W going to William B. Beavers on 6/15/1854.  A search on BLM for certificate number 48661 in AL yields just two documents, both for Asa Peevy in Butler County, AL.  The only purchase by any Gideon Barnett or Barnette or Barnet is 40 acres in SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of T2S R8W on 8/5/1837 in Lauderdale, AL, certificate number 8661.)
    
    Barnet to Barnett.  Indenture made between William Barnett and Gideon Barnett. William Barnett sells for $200.00 W1/2 of NW1/2 of Sec. 15, T2s, R8w, 80.60 acres.  Also all interest in mills built by both in Co-partenship which was one-half.  Signed: William Barnett.  Test: Charles E. Barnett, Jacob Barnett.  Recorded 22 Jan. 1845.
    
    The following letter was found in File Box 328, Lauderdale County Courthouse. Lexington, 25 Mar. 1867                                                          
    Judge Benham, Florence, Ala.
    
    Dear Sir, " Gideon Barnett, my father- in- law departed this life on 16th Inst. he died intestate, did not leave widow or children.  My children are his heirs, they are minors incompetant to administer.  Thos. N. Williams being the largest creditor and I believe a competant and suitable man to administer.  I therefore  recommend him to your honor, I would also suggest to your honor the prospect of ordering the personal property of said estate sold for cash as I do not believe that there could be a note made that would secure an administration".

    Memo of the Will of David Howell, deceased.  Wife Mary Howell, Signed: 9 Oct. 1815.  Wit: Stephen Loyd and Elizabeth Loyd.  Proven: 19 Nov. 1815.  (Mary Howell is called Elizabeth Howell in all settlement records of David Howell's estate.) (Mary Elizabeth??)

    Will Book for 1853 - Page 295.
    "I Elizabeth Howell do make and publish this my last will and testament hereby revolking and making void all other wills made at any time.
    #1 I direct that my funeral expenses and all debts be paid etc.
    #2 I give and bequeath to my daughter Martha, who married Gideon Barnet, said Martha now dead, 1 cent. To my daughter Joanna R. who married Lorenzo Harrison, now deceased, 1 cent. To my daughter Savannah C. who married Leon Benson, 1 cent.  To Altabitha C. who married David Brown, 1 cent. To Charles Howell, 1 cent.
    #3 I give and bequeath to my son Hyson M. Howell, my entire stock of every discription, my household and kitchen furniture of every discription.
    Lastly, I do nominate and appoint Hyson M. Howell, my executor. In witness whereof I do to this will set my hand and seal this the 19th day of January 1856."

SC, living with Jacob age 76 (b est 1784), male, occup farmer, b. SC.  Immed nbrs are Selina HOPKINS 32 AL (sic) at 398/398 and G. B. VICKERS 74 SC (alt NC).

    Unable to locate in 1840 US Census as Gideon BARNETT (soundex) or G BARNETT (soundex) in any state.  1840 for Lincoln, TN has Jas BARNET  age 50-60 (1780-1790), 10110001-021101, line 13 from bottom, no slaves, 9 persons total, 2 in agric, 1 in manufactures and trades (Civil District 2A, Roll 531, Pg 96); William BARNETT age 20-30 (1810-1820) 20001-00001, 16 from bottom, 4 persons total, 1 in agric (Civil District 18, Roll 531, Pg 69); Isom BURNETT, Mark BURNETT and Obadiah BURNETT; Madison, AL has Andrew C. BARNETT in South Half, D P, Hug, Jno N, Jos P and M H in (twp not stated).
    
    1830 US Census, residing in Lincoln, TN, head of h/hold is Gideon BARNETT (misindexed), 00012-002101, thus one male 15-20 (1810-1815), two males 20-30 (1800-1810) (Gideon 1803 and one other), two females 10-15 (1815-1820), one female 15-20 (1810-1815), and one female 30-40 (1790-1800) (line 9) -- some confusion on page 2, but it appears Gideon may have had 2 slaves.  Three lines down (line 12) is (father-in-law) David HOWELL (indexed as HAWELL).  Other BARNETT enumerants in Lincoln, TN in 1830 are Joseph BARNET 21100001- (1770-1780) (Roll 177, Pg 269) and Allen BARNETT 11001- (1800-1810) (Roll 177, Pg 202); NB also Isom BURNET 102012- (1790-1800) (Roll 177, Pg 272) and Obediah BURNETT 200211- (1790-1800) (Roll 177, Pg 235).  NB Gideon's presumed father Jacob found in neighboring Madison, AL in 1830, no male Gideon's age in h/hold.
